According to Wikipedia, three years after 1875, the Philippines had its First Official National Census and the total population at that time was around 5.6 million Filipinos. In the year 1900, the estimated GDP per capita for the Philippines was $1,033.00 and that made the Philippines the second richest place in all of Asia, just a little behind Japan ($1,135.00), and far ahead of China ($652.00) or India ($625.00).
